This is our salute to Ivan Brent, director of catering of the St. Regis-Sheraton Hotel, in Manhattan. The membership of the Food and Beverage Managers Association of America has selected Ivan as “The Man Of The Year”. He will, for this distinction, receive the Annual Award at the Association’s affair at The Biltmore on Saturday, March 31, 1979.
That honor is indeed a tribute to Ivan Brent’s tenacity and standing in the Food and Beverage Industry. His approach to this profession was through most uncommon channels. Born and bred ,in Budapest, Hungary, he yearned to be a counselor-at-law, while earning some modest sums in an uncle’s residential hotel there. But World War II and the spectra of concentration camps smothered his ambitions for the bar forever.
